Did you know that in 5 minutes or less, stress can be stopped in it’s tracks? It’s almost instantaneous with this exercise.
Minute One: Get your journal and a pen. Always have something to write on and something to write with near by. I have a tiny spiral notebook in my purse and I always have a loaded fountain pen in several places, purse, by my favorite chair attached to another spiral notebook, etc. You get the idea. Always handy. I love fountain pens. They have a very calming effect on me. I think fountain pens reach out and take hold of a person’s right brain. I collect them. But that’s another article.
Minute Two: Find a Bible. You can’t do this exercise without one. All you really need is the book of Proverbs.
Minute Three: Read 5 verses in the Proverbs for today. What I mean is, if today is the 16th, read Proverbs 16:1-5 or 6-10 or 7-11, etc.
Minute Four: Pick one of the 5 verses and write a sentence prayer in your journal based on that verse. Whether you believe in the bible or not, this will work. Whether you believe in prayer or not, this will work. For today, if it really was the 16th. You could read Proverbs 16:1-5 and pick verse 3. Here’s what you might write… “Lord, I’m stressed! But help me calm down and get the right things done at the right time like it says in Proverbs 16:3 ‘Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.’ So, I trust You to make that happen! Amen.”
Minute Five: Take 3 deep breathes, inhale, exhale, breathe in, breathe out, one more time thinking this thought of gratitude, ‘Thanks, I needed that!’
